There are so many fun and new things that you can start doing with your kids as they get older. You can even start in on some kids woodworking projects with them. Just make sure no matter what kids’ woodworking projects you get started with that you’re always keeping everything safe. You can choose to make this as large or small as you want, depending on how much experience with woodworking you have and how long you want to spend working on it.
There are lots of different ideas for woodworking projects for kids. All you need is a jig saw, sandpaper, hammer, dust mask, goggles, artist’s brush, carbon paper, wooden stakes, finishing nails, plywood and some paint. Now all you do is choose a pattern say of a pumpkin or witch, perfect for Halloween. You can use anything you want just try to keep it relatable to the holiday so for instance a witch, gravestone or pumpkin are all easy Halloween shapes.
Use the carbon paper over the wood to trace out the lines of the pattern you’ve printed off to use. The kids can do this part and just make sure that they’re pressing down hard enough on the carbon paper so it will mark the wood. Next you smooth all the edges down with sandpaper and this is a great job for the kids to do on their own because the sandpaper is rough but not enough to hurt them. Keep going until the sides are all completely smooth and again this is a great part for the kids because you don’t have to worry about them getting hurt on sandpaper.
Then they can paint and decorate the figurine however they want, and it’s really fun to use glow in the dark paint because then it will stand out even at night when trick or treaters come. This way not only can your kids be proud they made this all on their own, but they actually get to use it and show it off too. The idea of a wooden goodie bag may sound a bit strange, but there are so many different shapes you can work with and this way kids can show off what they’ve made as they’re going around collecting candy on Halloween. What you can do to make it easier is just take five pieces of wood about the same size and nail them together.
Make a box like shape but without a top on it, and they can decorate this however they want and take it around to collect candy. They make them feel grown up and start teaching them responsibility, especially on the larger tools. All kids love crafts while they’re growing up but working with wood is something more advanced and makes them feel like grownups. There are lots of great projects that your kids can work on and which they’re sure to love making.
