Commercial bee keeping is a career field that is not often talked about but one that is very rewarding. Of course it is a challenging job, as bee keepers work with hundreds to thousands of colonies of bees at a single time. This is not a job that you can just apply to on a whim and get accepted for. Just as with any other job however, over time you will get more practice and will get the hang of things.
There are only select educational institutions that offer courses and classes in bee keeping so you will have to take a look around and see where you can get signed up. You need to learn how to react to bees, how to control them and what the emergency measures are if the bees ever get out of hand. For the most part bees are not considered to be dangerous but with such large numbers of bees you are dealing with at one time, things can definitely get a bit scary if you do not know what you are doing.
Once you have completed your course you will have learned how to deal with bees and also about emergency tactics.
If you have a bit of experience for instance if you went through an internship during your schooling, you can expect to get an entry level position with a salary of about $45,000 a year. Bees usually do not lash out and get angry unless they are provoked, but accidents do happen and things sometimes go wrong so bee keepers need to be prepared and know how to protect themselves as well as others around them. A lot of bee keepers are self-employed and this is a decision that you will have to make before getting started. The best idea, even if you have a long-term goal of owning your own bee keeping business, is to get at least a bit of experience working at an apiary first.
This way you can get a bit of experience and feel more comfortable with bee keeping before even considering taking on the huge step of starting your own business. It is usually best to at least get started off working in an apiary, which is a public company where you would get hired as a bee keeper.
There are apiaries located all around the world and because bee keeping is still a relatively slow growing career field, it should be easy enough for you to find one that is hiring. One of the things that is so great about the bee keeping career field is the variety that it offers.
You will certainly never be bored if you get started in a career like this. Many people are not aware of just how financially rewarding a job in bee keeping can be. Most of the people in commercial bee keeping were a bit scared before getting started in the job. You will learn how to work with the bees and keep them with a good temperament.
